what life would you normally get out of a set of brake pads?

Hello,

I have a flatbar road, and the only thing that drives me nuts are the V-brakes.

Is it possible to covert from the stock V-brakes to 105/ultegra dual pivot caliper brakes? I currently have R500 wheels for 700cx28 tyres.

Both the frame and fork have what to me looks like a mounting hole for the caliper style brakes.

Also, what life would you normally get out of a set of brake pads for commuting? I have done 1600kms and my back pad is 80% worn. Is it just the cheap pad?

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

Hi,
in theory, there is no reason why that should work, providing you have the correct attachment holes. Normally, you would get more braking power from V-brakes though, but we assume that is not what you are looking for.

It is almost impossible to judge if 1600km is a fair amount for your brake pad wear or not, as so many aspects play into that. The condition of your rims, the pads you are using, the way your ride, the terrain, the conditions on the road. You are probably best advised to try different pads and see if that makes a significant difference.

Might be worth getting your bike checked over by a qualified mechanic.

Hope that helps.
